Halo co-creator scores $5m investment for tablet shooter Midnight Star

Bungie co-founder Alex Seropian’s startup Industrial Toys has received a sizable investment from Accel Partners to develop his new mobile title, Midnight Star.

Games Beat reports on the the funding deal, a $5m investment to help complete Seropian’s upcoming tablet shooter. The industry veteran served as president and CEO of Bungie during the development of Halo: Combat Evolved, and Midnight Star appears to be in the same vein as the hit Xbox FPS.

Accel has a solid track record, previously investing in mega-successful mobile studios Rovio and Supercell. A representative of the company stated that the investment was "about the game.”

"[Industrial Toys] have a vision and focus on quality. They made their first product on a scrappy budget, but it is going to be very polished,” the rep said.

Seropian himself added that it seems obvious” core gamers will eventually migrate from console to mobile.
