IGN acquires GameTrailers name and videos

GameTrailers may not be quite as dead as previously thought.

Media giant IGN has stepped in – as reported by Polygon – purchasing both the GameTrailers’ name and the site’s massive library of videos.

While GameTrailers.com is gone, its video content and YouTube channel will survive. That domain also redirects the the brand’s YouTube outlet.

IGN is going to be updating GameTrailers’ own YouTube channel with new videos.

GameTrailers was closed in February 2016 following its acquisition by Defy Media two years earlier. Things went south soon after the purchase, with Defy making mass redundancies at GameTrailers, as well as The Escapist and GameFront. That last website was closed down in April.

"We are big fans of the content GameTrailers has published over the years and want to ensure that the videos will survive online," an IGN spokesperson told Polygon. "We have added the GT YouTube channel to our network and are scouring hard drives and uploading back catalog content that never made it across."
