Indie retailer offers £21,000 ‘PC desk’

Bolton-based PC gaming retailer Scan Computers International is selling a 21,000 PC – which doubles up as a desk.

Scan was recently listed as one of this year’s 20 best indie games retailers as part of MCV and Koch Media’s Independent Retail Month.

The pricey PC rig is designed and built by the retail specialist itself, which is just one of the premium products it stocks for computer gamers.

We concentrate on high-end gaming products like our own brand 3XS Systems,” Scan’s Pete Bassett told MCV.

Our average PC is around 2,000 so they’re not cheap, but they’re high quality.

Our most expensive one is the Swordfish which was featured at The Gadget Show Live. That tops a whacking 21,000.

Basically, the desk is the computer. That’s why it’s so expensive – because it’s a lot of hard work putting it together.”

Scan was established in 1987 and has opened three stores in that time – two in Malta and one in the UK. It employs 150 members of staff out of its main office in Bolton and sees the majority of its sales through its website at www.scan.co.uk.
