‘It’s easy to build video game concessions in HMV’

Fancy opening a Wii U, Tomb Raider or Angry Birds shop? What about a space dedicated to The Sims?

HMV wants to build more concessions dedicated to specific games following the launch of its Skylanders departments in London, Manchester and Glasgow.

The new Skylanders areas feature interactive game pods, racks of games, plus a plethora of merchandise.

Many of our stores provide ample space for dedicated concessions around a product or brand,” HMV’s category manager for games Andy Pinder told MCV.

The recent introduction of Skylanders and Gamerbase Lounge environments demonstrates our flexibility and commitment to bringing games to life inside HMV and to build retail theatre around the big franchises.

It’s dead easy to get involved, and we’re keen to discuss any ideas. Myself and Dominic Mulroy are the management team that work with suppliers to create the design, strategy and business case behind booking an environment. We can liaise between their games and technology suppliers to produce engaging experiences.”

According to Pinder, he’s already been approached from publishers following the launch of the Skylanders concessions.
