JAPAN: DS fights back against PSP

With the combined retail power of both the redesigned Slim & Lite hardware and Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core, Sony’s PSP has bossed the Japanese hardware for three weeks – but Nintendo’s DS has staged a come-back.

According to data from Japanese market analysts Media Create, the DS sold 87,535 last week, narrowly ahead of the PSP whose sales dropped by 16,000 to 86,895.

There were similar drops in sales on the home consoles, with Wii sales falling by 3,000 to 20,704 and PS3’s sales dropping to 10,446. Xbox 360, meanwhile, sold 1,547 units.
