JAPAN: PS3 sales pass 5m

According to the latest numbers from weekly magazine Famitsu, total sales of Sony’s PS3 have now passed the 5m mark in Japan.

Kotaku’s translation also claims that Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIII is already the best selling game on the console, with total sales of 1.8m units. The next strongest performer is Konami’s Metal Gear Solid 4 (706k) and Sega’s Yakuza 4 (526k).

PS3 hit the 4m mark in Japan in mid-December, meaning that it’s shifted an extra million units in just under four months, having dominated the hardware race in recent weeks.

In early February Sony pegged worldwide PS3 sales at 33.5m, with the UK total as of January 22nd standing at 3m.
