Kickstarter UK attracts £2m in first month in UK

More than 2 million has been pledged to UK creators on Kickstarter.

The crowdfunding servicelaunched in the UK a month ago, and so far 2,069,164 ($3.33 million) has been pledged.

Kickstarter co-founder Yancey Strickler and data engineer Fred Benenson released data about its first month in ablog post.

45,799 backers contributed to the 2 million, with 30 projects being successfully funded out of 407 launched.

Of those backers, 39 per cent were from UK. Both the US and Europe were responsible for 23 per cent each. Other regions accounted for 15 per cent of the total backers. From the EU countries, Germany, Sweden, France, Denmark and the Netherlands are home to the most backers so far.

By contrast, 78 per cent of backers for US projects came from the same region, with 22 per cent coming from outside the US.

Regionally, London had the most with 217 projects. Edinburgh launched 43, with Belfast and Manchester starting 12 projects each.

Funded UK games include fighting game Fist of Awesome, open world RPG Sui Generis, Tales of Fallen London: The Silver Tree, indie platformer PuzzlePork and adventure game Broken Sword: The Serpent’s Curse.
