Develop Conference: Supercell CEO predicts multi-platform convergence in browsers 'within a year'

‘Core games are heading to browser’

Ilkka Paananen, CEO of the Finland-based browser games studio Supercell, has said that he believes core, casual and browser games ‘will start to merge next year’.

Talking about his young studio’s upcoming browser title Gunshine.net, currently in beta, Paananen pointed to the speed of development in online social games as evidence for his prediction.

“We are really evolving as an industry, and faster than ever,” he said.

“Core, casual and browser games will start to merge next year in the browser. They will be truly social and cross-platform.

“The difference between what you can achieve in a browser and what you have in core games is getting smaller and smaller.”
