Future will close CVG

Future has decided to close CVG, MCV has been told.

According to sources close to the business, CVG and all of its staff are on consultation and face redundancy. The site may even be closed before the end of the year. CVG is currently the longest-running video games media brand in history.

CVG was considered for closure back in May, but by June Future had decided to keep the website running for another six-months. However, a number of staff were made redundant at that time.

The consumer games website is one of the biggest in the UK, but it did not fit with Future’s new digital vision, which involved combining its entertainment websites – including Gamesradar, Total Film and SFX – into one website.

The CVG brand turned 33-years old this month. It is also the official media outlet for the Golden Joystick Awards, which have been running for 31-years.

We have contacted Future for official comment.
