Minecraft passes 500k purchases

Indie PC hit Minecraft has passed the 500,000 purchases barrier as the one-man project continues to take the gaming world by storm.

In the last 24 hours alone the game has sold nearly 10k copies.

The Minecraft stats site is currently down, meaning the very latest numbers aren’t currently available. But at the last count total purchases had passed 520k, and that’s from a total registration base of nearly 1.65m – a conversion rate of about 30 per cent.

The game is currently netting maker Markus Persson in the region of 80k every day, though previous reports have suggested that some days have seen returns of as much as 220k.

In September Persson told sister-site Develop that he had turned down job offers from both Valve and Bungie, and is in the process of opening a fully-fledged development studio.
