New Super Mario Bros. 2 leaping onto 3DS in August

A new Mario sidescroller is coming to 3DS this summer, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has announced.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 is to be a follow-up to the popular Nintendo DS title New Super Mario Bros. as well as New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

The sequel was revealed during a Japanese video presentation hosted by the company in Japan yesterday. It’s currently targeted for an August release.

"This all-new, side-scrolling adventure features Mario, Luigi and all your fave characters from the Mario series,” Nintendo’s Facebook page states.

Nintendo of America has also officially confirmed a US release for New Super Mario Bros. 2 around the same time as Japan later this year.
