Oculus Rift dev kit 2 starts shipping this month

The latest Oculus Rift development kit will start to ship to pre-order customers this month, Oculus VR has announced.

In a post on the product’s official forums, Oculus VR’s Andres Hernandez confirmed that the first wave of Oculus Rift DK2 units are expected to arrive on July 14th.

The company community manager went on to explain that of the 45,000 virtual reality headset units pre-ordered, only 10,000 will arrive during July.

"We’re slightly behind in manufacturing and there’s currently a high chance that some developers with estimated shipping in July may not have their DK2s shipped until August," Hernandez wrote.

"We have a team in China working on continued ramp of production at our factory, and we’ll work our way through the queue as fast as we can."

Oculus started selling the new Rift model earlier this year for $350.
