Vainglory’s first World Championship heads to Hollywood

The first ever Vainglory World Championship will be held at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood this December.

Between the 2nd and 4th of December12 of the best Vainglory teams from across the world will fight for the title of world champions, and a nice chunk of cash.

Hammers Velocity and Team SoloMid will represent NA, along with one further team from the qualifiers, with Team Secret and SNOW Avalanche representing EU along with one more qualified team. Team Hunters from China, Invincible Armada from Korea, ILLMATIC from Japan, INFAMOUS Legion from SEA, Amaterasu Gaming from South America and one TBC wildcard will round out the teams competing in California.

This is the first time we are organizing Vainglory Worlds, with 12 of the best teams from around the globe competing for the Championship,” said Heini Vesander, Marketing and Communications Director at Super Evil Megacorp, when talking to MCV. Together with our esports partner Twitch, we wanted to select a venue and location that is prestigious for an event of this caliber. And what’s a better place than the legendary TCL Chinese Theatre (formerly Grauman’s Chinese Theatre | Mann’s Chinese Theatre) in Los Angeles, which is one of the entertainment capitals of the World? It also makes sense for us to stay on our home turf for the first Worlds. In the future, you can expect Worlds to be organized in different countries around the World.”

Previously Vainglory has had regional finals after every season, where the best teams from each region fight it out for the number one spot. However international competition has been less common in the Vainglory world, meaning Worlds will be bigger and better than anything seen before.

Our regional championships have featured 8 top teams playing throughout a weekend,” continued Vesander. This time, we have 12 teams so there’s more matches and more entertainment. Also, the stakes will be higher as the teams compete for the year’s Worlds dominance so we’re expecting really high energy levels and even more engagement from the crowd. The venue is bigger than we’ve ever done, so yes, Worlds will be bigger than our previous esports events.”

With teams from across the globe coming together for what is really the first time predicting a which region will come out on top is no easy task. So that’s why we asked Heini, who has been at the heart of almost every event in the west.

That is a tricky question and I’m super excited to see the best teams from the different regions compete in the same matches,” said Vesander. There’s some amazing talent especially in Southeast Asia – but then you look at Europe and North America and the skill level is so high already. I honestly cannot predict the outcome!”

Be sure to catch all of the action from worlds on Twitch between December 2nd and 4th, or if you are in that part of the world, tickets for the event will be on sale soon.
