Media giants get appy

The UK’s leading magazine publishers are upping the ante on Apple devices.

Future Publishing has launched more than 15 apps for iPhone and iPad in the last three months based on brands such as Total Film, Classic Rock and SFX, and the firm is keen to get its games portfolio involved as well.

Tablet computers and mobiles are big areas of growth for Future,” said group entertainment publisher Simon Maxwell.

Within Future’s games portfolio, we’re constantly looking for new ways to expand our brands on to new platforms and to reach new audiences.”

Certain magazines – including Edge, PSM3, GamesMaster and Xbox World 360 – are available through digital magazine publisher Zinio.

The firm’s App drive follows successful steps by rival Imagine Publishing. It has launched 29 apps across iOS devices, including downloadable editions of its entire print portfolio which features gaming magazines such as GamesTM, Play and Retro Gamer.
