Microsoft hikes prices for upcoming Xbox 360 games

Upcoming titles such as Halo 4, Forza Horizon and Nike+ Fitness will receive considerable price hikes, Microsoft has informed retailers.

Halo 4 will retail for Rs 3,299, with the Limited Collector’s Edition priced at Rs 4,599, while Forza Horizon will be priced at Rs 2,999 for the standard edition and Rs 4,599 for the Limited Edition.

Prices are also set to go up for first-party Kinect titles. While these were earlier priced at Rs 2,199, the upcoming Dance Central 3, Nike+ Kinect Training, Kinect Sports Ultimate, and Fable: The Journey will all retail for Rs 2,599.

The reason for the sudden price increase is unclear. Other recent price hikes were at least partly down to the weakening Ruppe, but the currency has since strengthened, currently standing at Rs 52-53 to a US Dollar.

It’s an interesting turn of events, considering that at the start of this console generation, Microsoft was the most aggressive with respect to game prices in India. First-party Xbox 360 titles were for long priced at Rs 1,895, even prompting third parties such as EA to follow a Rs 1,999 price line.
