Microsoft’s IllumiRoom evolves into RoomAlive

The appealing IllumiRoom tech demo shown off by Microsoft last year has expended into an even more technologically complicated beast.

IllumiRoom sparked interest in January 2013 and used a combination of Kinect and projectors to expand a gaming environment beyond the confines of the TV screen to encompass an entire side of a room.

This research project has influenced a brand new tech demo from the firm, however, going under the name of RoomAlive.

This new outing uses an even more complicated network of projectors and six Kinects to transform an entire room into a gaming environment, presenting a far higher level of interaction than offered by its predecessor.

Again, RoomAlive is far too costly and cumbersome for average consumers but will likely inform on future more affordable and accessible projects.
