Studio partners to feature in games hub

Android apps paraded with new OpenFeint Channel

The OpenFeint social network for games is expanding with a new games channel that directs Android users to recommended games.

The move means that games in the OpenFeint network will, in theory, enjoy further promotion and have a greater chance of becoming noticed in the oceanic Android store.

OpenFeint is better known for its cross-games network for mobile devices, giving games access to sophisticated scoreboards as well as social networking features and some multiplayer options.

The technology, available on both iOS and Android, also cross-promotes different games within its network, but adding a dedicated channel could further boost discoverability for studio partners.

OpenFeint Game Channel promotes a free game each day, while also bundling recommended games together. A separate selection of ‘premier games’ is also available.

The financial agreements that underpin such promotions were not discussed. Earlier this year, OpenFeint was acquired for $104 million by Japanese games firm Gree.

The platform launched after a Telegram MVP that reached more than 900,000 users and tracked nearly $15 million in gaming assets.
