App Store devs generated $10bn in revenue in 2014

App Store developers generated a record combined revenue of more than $10 billion in 2014.

New figures released by Apple have revealed that, to date, developers have earned a cumulative $25 billion from sales of apps and games since the App Store was launched in 2008.

New Year’s day also saw the single biggest ever day of sales in the App Store’s history, while the first week of January saw consumers spend nearly half a billion dollars on apps and in-app purchases.

During the last quarter, Apple also donated a record $20 million to the Global Fund to fight AIDS as part of the RED campaign. Since partnering with RED, Apple has donated over $100m.

“This year is off to a tremendous start after a record-breaking year for the App Store and our developer community,” said Apple senior VP if Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue.

“We’re so proud of the creativity and innovation developers bring to the apps they create for iOS users and that the developer community has now earned over $25 billion.”
