Apple App Store enjoys a record-breaking July

The market may be getting increasingly tough for Apple, but that isn’t stopping the continued growth of the App Store.

CEO Tim Cook told CNBC that the App Store in July generated more revenue than in any other month in its history. "I couldn’t be happier,” said Cook. This is the best execution of any quarter since I’ve been at Apple."

Apple has also claimed that since the App Store’s inception in 2008 it has paid European developers a total of $6.5bn via App Store sales. It predicts that the overall app economy will generate European revenues of $16.5bn in 2014, with worldwide GDP contributions of $86bn.

It also claims credit for the creation of 497,000 European jobs since 2008, directly as a result of this app economy, 132,000 of which are directly or indirectly supported by Apple.

"This job growth for coders, developers, entrepreneurs, and others would not have existed without Apple’s innovations and technology," Apple stated. "With more than 1.2m apps and over 75bn downloads, the App Store has created an entirely new industry: iOS app design and development."

All signs point to the announcement of the iPhone 6 on September 9th.
