iOS 8.0.1 update breaks iPhone 6 reception and Touch ID

Apple has pulled its latest iOS 8.0.1 update after the software broke two key iPhone features.

The iterative software update borked Touch ID across many handsets that support it – the iPhone 5S and both iPhone 6s. More worrying it also left some iPhone 6 users unable to connect to mobile networks entirely.

Customers who downloaded the update before it was pulled are being advised to restore their handsets to iOS 8.

We apologise for the great inconvenience experienced by users, and are working around the clock to prepare iOS 8.0.2 with a fix for the issue, and will release it as soon as it is ready in the next few days," Apple said in a statement.

Vanilla iOS 8 has had its fair share of criticism, too, with some users complaining of erratic wi-fi signals, battery life issues and slow web browsing.

And that’s not the end of it, either – the iPhone 6 Plus has been accused by some users of bending in their pockets. And yes, the sage has of course been called #BendGate.
