Fishlabs beats five other nominees to prize at German Developer Awards 2011

Mobile dev trumps Crytek to best studio accolade

Hamburg-based mobile developer Fishlabs has taken the best studio award ahead of triple-A outfit Crytek at the German Developer Awards 2011.

The Galaxy on Fire creator beat five other studios to take the award, including Chimera Entertainment, Crenetic, Blue Byte and Deck13.

In his acceptance speech, Fishlabs CEO Michael Schade said: “We are extremely happy to receive this award and I would first and foremost like to thank our whole team not only for the development of truly outstanding mobile games, but also for sticking with us in good times and bad times alike.”

Schade also thanked the late Steve Jobs for creating the “revolutionary” iPhone that has helped catapult the studio into the limelight.

Despite missing out on best studio, Crytek scooped six other awards including best graphics and soundtrack for Crysis 2 and best games technology for its CryEngine 3 platform.

The annual Germany developer awards ceremony was held on Wednesday December 7th in Duesseldorf.
