Motorola is first third-party manufacturer to offer access to Google Daydream

Motorola will be the first third-party Android manufacturers to get access to Android’s Nougat 7.0 OS, which in turn will make it the first third-party manufacturer to support Google’s Daydream VR.

There’s an update coming to the Moto Z and Moto Z Force later this week that’ll push them to Android Nougat 7.0 and enable them to use Google’s VR software.

Motorola have worked extensively with Google in the past, and was owned by the company for several years until Google sold operations off to Lenovo, so it’s not a big surprise to see Motorola getting in the door first with Google’s new VR plans, but it’s no doubt a positive for customers that are interested in Daydream but not so keen on Google’s Pixel phones as now it’s started to roll out, several other third party manufacturers can’t be far off.

The adoption rate of Nougat 7.0 has understandably been quite low as it’s only been available on Google’s own devices, and Google have claimed that 0.3% of Android devices have the OS installed.

The DayDream View headset launched earlier in November. It’s currently the only headset to support Google’s Daydream VR system.
