Relentless opens new digital division

Relentless Software has opened a new digital division to expand its social and casual gaming possibilities, the company has announced.

The Brighton studio, which has developed console games such as Air Band for Kinect, has already released digital titles including PSN game Blue Toad Murder Files: The Mysteries of Little Riddle, which has sold over 250,000 episodes.

“The Digital division in Relentless has been established as a separate division that reports to me as CEO,” said executive director Andrew Eades.

“We’re serious about social and mobile games and that’s why we have taken the logical step to separate these activities from the Console business.”

The studio has also hired mobile developer James Wright, formerly of EA, as executive producer.

He added: “The formalisation of the digital division is a valuable starting point to take over from Relentless’ self-publishing strategy. It will bring more fun, accessible and ground-breaking titles across several platforms for non-gamers.”

The opening of a new division is quite a turnaround for a company which earlier this year revealed to Develop it had issued redundancies to a number of staff, believed to be around 20 employees.
