Apple relaxes the developer guidelines for its App Store

Report: Apple u-turn on app subscriptions

Apple has quietly changed its controversial guidelines on app subscriptions.

Developers are not longer required to charge the “same price or less than it is offered outside the app,” reports MacRumours. In fact, price guidelines have been removed entirely.

The firm has also removed requirements that external subscriptions must be offered as an in-app purchase.

Apple unveiled their in-app subscription model in February to much disapproval.

One reason the announcement was met with criticism is because Apple will still take a 30 per cent cut of every subscription sale, which could significantly affecting developer profits.
