The Elder Scrolls Online will require a monthly subscription

Players of The Elder Scrolls Online will be required to play a monthly subscription.

Upon buying the game players will get free access for 30 days after which an 8.99 per month subscription will be needed to continue.

We feel the traditional subscription is the model that best fits what we are doing with the game,” Zenimax Online Studios president Matt Firor told MCV at Gamescom.

We understand that there are plenty of other payment options out there, plenty of different ways to monetise. And that’s fine. I’m not saying free-to-play is bad or anything. It is just subscription is the one that fits this game the best.”

It’s an interesting move in an age where monthly subscriptions are viewed by many as being toxic and free-to-play is often touted as the future of the genre.
