UPDATE: Xbox One SmartGlass app arrives ahead of console launch

Microsoft has released Xbox One’s SmartGlass companion app, ahead of the console’s launch this Friday.

Xbox One owners can use the SmartGlass device as a remote control and keyboard via the touch screen. The new version of the app also boasts "increased performance with faster connections and reliability," versus the original 360 app.

"Xbox One SmartGlass is the perfect companion app for your Xbox One, both in your living room and on the go," the description reads.

"Connect and control your Xbox One. Stay connected with the games and gamers you like. Add a new dimension to your console entertainment with the mobile device you already own."

The app is available to download now on Android, Windows 8, and Windows Phone. An iOS version has been submitted and is waiting approval from Apple.

UPDATE: The iOS version has been pushed through certification and is now available on Apple’s app store.
