Modern Warfare 2 DLC makes £25m

It looks like the 1200 Microsoft Point gamble paid off. Activision’s first piece of DLC for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, dubbed the Stimulus Package, has netted around 25m since it was released

Microsoft has announced that the DLC has been downloaded from Xbox Live over 2.5m times since its release on March 30th. Furthermore, the Stimulus Pack was downloaded over 1m times in the first 24 hours alone.

Given that it has hit 25m in just seven days AND still has its PS3 and PC release to look forward to, it’s probably fair to say that Activision is looking at a minimum return of 50m for the creation of its five multiplayer maps.

Additional stats show that since Modern Warfare 2 was released last November, gamers have played more than 1.75bn hours playing the game online, which equates to around 200,000 years.

For the time being, the Stimulus Pack remains an Xbox 360 exclusive, though it will see a release on both PS3 and PC some time in the coming weeks.
