Monster Hunter storms Japan

The commercial popularity of Capcom’s Monster Hunter series shows no sign of abating with news that the latest release in the series has got off to a tremendous start in Japan.

1UP reports that PSP title Monster Hunter Portable 3rd has shifted 2,146,467 copies in its first five days on the market in Japan. That’s a new record for the handheld.

As a result of the boom, hardware sales are also said to be up, with the PSP shifting 326,639 units in the process.

The PSP is currently the second best selling console in Japan this year.
