NCsoft’s new MMO Wildstar looks to shake up genre

GAMESCOM: MMO specialist NCsoft has lifted the lid on a brand new MMO from developer Carbine Studios – Wildstar.

The game takes a different design approach to rivals in the MMO genre by offering significantly different gameplay styles depending on the player’s chosen speciality – Explorer, Soldier, Scientist or Settler.

The visuals are bright and distinctive, though more than one commentator has suggested they are at least vaguely reminiscent of, ahem, World of Warcraft.

The publisher also used its Gamescom showcase to showcase a new playable Guild Wars 2 demo.

WildStarandGuild Wars 2showcase the innovation coming from NCsoft’s development studios, paving the way for the next generation of video games and setting a high bar for the entertainment industry to follow,” executive vice-president of publishing for NCsoft West Matt Turetzky stated.

We are focused on delighting players by delivering fun, immersive experiences that rival traditional forms of entertainment through personal expression, best-in-class gameplay mechanics, and social engagement.”
