New boss Matsuda promises complete overhaul at Square Enix; Rogers confirmed as director

Yosuke Matsuda has promised to review all aspects of Square Enix’s business.

The exec will in June replace outgoing former boss Yoichi Wada and has obviously decided that drastic action is needed following the prediction of a 13bn loss for the current financial year.

After having succeeded the important role as the president, I plan on reviewing all Square Enix duties, business and assets on a zero-based budgeting standpoint,” Matsuda said in a recent briefing, as reported by Siliconera.

Due to the radical change of environment, I’d like to fundamentally review what works and what doesn’t work for our company, then cast all of our resources towards extending what makes us successful and thoroughly squeezing out what doesn’t.”

He also confirmed his intention to appoint current European CEO Phil Rogers to the publisher’s board of directors

Wada has reasserted his commitment to the company, despite losing the top job.

As an employee, I believe it is my duty to help the company and give proper results from it,” Wada stated. I will be retiring from the line of management, but I plan to work on site as a way to pay my debt to the company.”
