New Nexus 7 tablet launches today

The second generation Nexus 7 is set to hit shelves later today, and already some retailers are reporting shortages in stock.

Android Authority reports the 7-inch tablet has already sold out at Staples – who apparently broke Google’s previously announced retail date of July 30th.

Amazon, apparently also launching the device ahead of schedule, is down to just the 16 GB model.

As it did with the original line, GameStop will also carry the tablet and is offering a limited time trade-in deal to customers. Any in-store trades toward a new Nexus 7 will receive an extra 30 per cent in credit.

"The original Nexus 7 was a great success for both GameStop and Google, and we are excited to continue this success as the 7-inch tablet and Android market continue to grow," said GameStop VP of mobile, Joe Gorman.

The new Nexus 7 comes with an increased 1,920×1,200 resolution along with under the hold upgrades and the latest version of Android – Jelly Bean 4.3. Google’s device retails for $230 for the 16 GB model and $270 for the 32 GB model.

A $350 model supporting LTE is also in the works, and should be available "in the coming weeks."
