Nintendo plots Xmas day ad blitz

Nintendo is planning extensive TV advertising on Christmas Day in support of its Boxing Day release, 100 Classic Book Collection.

The platform holder is optimistic the game can capitalise on the post-Christmas sales rush, with the title’s 19.99 price tag set to be a major selling point.

As this title represents such great value for money, we thought that launching on Boxing Day is the ideal timing, working well with the post-Christmas sales bonanza where sales are focused on value and also to offer something new to all those people who received a DS Lite for Christmas,” senior DS product manager James Honeywell told MCV.

This launch will clearly stand out amongst the rest of the activity going on, while taking advantage of the sales season.

Our marketing will be focused on TV to communicate with a mass market audience, starting strongly a few days before Christmas to ensure awareness is high before people visit stores on Boxing Day.

We will be running TV ads right across Christmas Day when viewing figures will be extremely high, backed up with extensive activity in-store that will grab people’s attention.”

The 100 Classic Book Collection is set to feature popular books from Oscar Wilde, William Shakespeare, George Elliot, Emily Bronte and Charles Dickens.
