Nintendo snaps up patents from failed legal opponent

IA Labs once tried to sue Nintendo over Wii Fit patents – patents which are now the proud property of Nintendo.

Kotaku reports that the company three years ago failed in an effort to sue Nintendo and was as a result ordered to pay the platform holder’s court costs.

It couldn’t, however, and as part of the subsequent Maryland sheriff’s sale Nintendo has acquired the very parents that IA originally claimed to have been infringed.

"Nintendo’s track record demonstrates that we vigorously defend patent lawsuits, like the IA Labs lawsuit, when we believe we have not infringed another party’s patent," Nintendo of America’s VP and deputy general counsel Richard Medway stated.

This includes holding those who sue Nintendo responsible for the costs and expenses incurred in patent litigation. Nintendo has a long history of developing innovative products while respecting the intellectual property rights of others."
