No 3D Blu-ray for PS3

It has emerged that Sony’s 3D PS3 update coming this June won’t add 3D Blu-ray functionality to the machine, TechRadar reports.

What the update will do is add 3D gaming functionality to the console. A subsequent firmware patch later in the year will add the long-awaited 3D movie option that is needed to take advantage of the new range of extra-dimensional Blu-rays.

The news is at odds with all the noise Sony has been making about the June launch of its first 3D TVs, which includes an offer of four free 3D PS3 games to anyone who buys a compatible Sony TV.
