Oculus Touch controllers get £190 UK RRP

The Oculus Rift’s price advantage over rival HTC Vive has just taken a big hit.

As spotted by Engadget, the upcoming Oculus Touch controllers – which are Oculus’s equivalent to the controllers included with the HTC Vive at launch – have been given a whopping 190 RRP in the UK. That’s according to an ad for the peripherals in a GAME store.

With the Oculus Rift itself having recently had its price increased to 549 for this week’s UK launch, that brings to total cost – for those who already own a suitably powerful PC – to 739.

HTC Vive, complete with controllers, now costs 759 after its own post-Brexit price increase. Bear in mind that if you want HTC to ship one to you that’ll cost 56.69, however.

How does that stack up with the third player in the market? PlayStation VR will cost 349 when it launches next month. You might also need to invest in a PS4 Camera and maybe some Move controllers, too.

Really, though, the overall price varies so much depending on the individual. Do you have a PS4? That can now be had for 250. Or would you rather wait for a 350 PS4 Pro? Do you already have a PC? Does it have a powerful enough graphics card? A GTX 1070, which is VR ready and offers the best bang-for-buck in the market at the moment, costs 400. Are you happy to play games designed for standard controllers? You might be, although that excludes you from some of the best experiences in the market. Hell, if you want good room-scale VR with the Vive, you might even need a new house. You might get a two bed North London flat for 300k or a four bed Hertfordshire country bungalow for 700k. Then of course there’s food and water and…
