Open-world Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes announced; New movie

Konami has announced the next Metal Gear Solid game at a Japanese press event to mark the 25th anniversary of the franchise.

Called Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, it makes a big departure from future games in the series by being open-world.

Cut scenes (of which you can expect many) appear to be rendered in real-time, blending seamlessly into gameplay. The debut trailer appeared to show a dynamic weather system, although nothing official has yet been confirmed.

The game will be powered by the latest generation of Konami’s impressive FOX Engine.

Series’ creator Hideo Kojima also confirmed that Columbia Pictures is working on a Metal Gear Solid movie. It’s being produced by Avi Arad, whose former credits include Iron man, The Amazing Spider-Man and The Incredible Hulk.

There was more news too – a Unity-powered smartphone game called Metal Gear Solid: Social Ops is under development at Gree.
