Overwatch release date leaks; Open beta could gatecrash Battleborn party

An ad seemingly posted on IGN by mistake seems to have revealed the release date for Blizzard’s Overwatch.

Reddit spotted an ad for the upcoming multiplayer shooter that carried a release date of May 24th for the title.

However, perhaps more interesting is the date it had listed for the open beta – May 3rd. That’s the release date of 2K and Gearbox’s Battleborn.

Overwatch and Battleborn are inescapably similar and seem destined to clash in a battle for users, particularly now their release dates are so close. The bad news for Gearbox is that the early chatter from those who have had hands-on time with both titles has often favoured Blizzard’s game.

Battleborn has been due out last month but was delayed until May.

Overwatch is in development for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. A simultaneous launch is apparently on the cards. A closed beta for the PC version has been very well received.
