Torment Kickstarter shatters records, hits $1.5m in under a day

It’s safe to say Brian Fargo’s latest Kickstarter effort, Torment: Tides of Numenera, will indeed be funded.

The project shattered Kickstater records earlier today, when it surpassed the $1m milestone right around six hours into the 30-day donation period.

Currently, the Kickstarter page displays over $1.58m pledged by nearly 30,000 backers, and it still hasn’t reached the end of its first 24 hours – that is some incredible support.

Developer Inxile Entertainment, who originally set a goal of $900k to fund the old school RPG successor, must now figure out what to do with the excess funding as it continues to amass at an alarming rate with still 29 days and change remaining.

"Our heads are still spinning at the incredible response we have had from today’s support of our Kickstarter campaign," read a statement from the developer. "We had plans to roll out our stretch goals and to write our Kickstarter updates but never in our wildest dreams did we think we would fund this quickly."

The campaign follows the success of the developer’s previous Kickstarter project Wasteland 2, which raised almost $3m from more than 60,000 backers.
