PEGI delayed. Again.

UKIE had reported that further delays are holding back the introduction of PEGI as the standard age rating system in the UK.

Only last week, the games industry trade body said it expected the system to be implemented early next year. Now it appears this isn’t the case, although a revised launch window has yet to be given.

The gaming industry voluntarily adopted the PEGI age rating system in 2003, before it was enshrined in the law in the Digital Economy Act 2010. However, the relevant part of this Act has yet to be brought into force.

"This further delay to PEGI’s implementation is extremely frustrating not to mention disappointing. We have received repeated assurances from Government that the process is in hand, yet PEGI is still no closer to implementation.

"It is also disappointing that a Government constantly – and quite rightly – pressuring the industry to put measures in a place to protect children – can’t seem to deliver on its side of the bargain."
