People are more likely to spend money on microtransactions than DLC according to NPD

The NPD Group has released the results of its study into microtransactions and DLC, and has come away with some surprising information.

The study showed that out of all Americans aged between 13 and 54, 28% had purchased extra content in the last three months according to Gamespot. It also revealed that 23% of people are likely to spend money on microtransactions while only 16% would spend money on DLC.

Around half of people said that DLC or microtransactions were not worth the money in some form, while 16% said they think all DLC content should have been included in the base game.

Weirdly, to me at least, only 68% of people believed that pay to win microtransactions are bad, with 77% saying they like microtransactions that extend their enjoyment of the game.

The data was based on responses from 8,893 people, of which 2,470 had spent money on DLC or microtransactions. NPD told Gamespot that the survey featured questions about Battleborn, Destiny, Gears of War Ultimate Edition, Grand Theft Auto V, and Halo 5: Guardians regarding microtransactions. Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Fallout 4, Lego Star Wars The Force Awakens, and Super Smash Bros. Wii U were the focus for DLC questions.
