Will be driving work-for-hire in the VR and AR markets.

Brynley Gibson hired as head of studios at Curve Digital

Curve Digital have brought on Brynley Gibson to be the company’s head of studios. Gibson was formerly an executive producer at SIE London Studios, the Sony-owned developers who just last week released PlayStation VR Worlds.

In a press release, Curve have mentioned that Gibson will head up Zöe Mode and Headstrong Games divisions, which were integrated into the Curve Digital roster when Curve Digital were acquired by The Catalis Group earlier this year.

He’ll also be responsible for driving ‘work for hire’ development in the booming VR and AR sector, something he’ll already have experience in from his time on VR Worlds.

“I’m delighted to take up the new role, heading up Curve Digital Entertainment Studios,” said Gibson. “It’s an incredibly exciting time and I’m very happy to be a part of this fast-moving business.”

The big question here is what this means for Curve’s future in VR development. Getting heavy virtual reality talent in, even if it’s currently just to assist with management contract work, still means Curve will be in a good position if they want to start working with VR content in the near future.

Gibson has also had roles at Lionhead Studios and Headstrong Games and has worked on games including the BAFTA-winning The Movies, Battalion Wars 2 and the Chime series.

Curve Digital’s CEO Dominic Wheatley has added: “Brynley’s experience in producing million-selling and critically-acclaimed games is second to none. In addition, his more recent successes in VR means that we are in an excellent position to provide cutting-edge development services in this fast-moving, cutting-edge space.”
