Playdead’s new game a spiritual successor to Limbo

The new game from developer Playdead will be a spiritual successor to its award-winning debut – Limbo, Danish newspaper Politiken has reported.

More details were revealed by the Danish government grant website. The game is currently codenamed Project 2, and will be a 2.5D platformer scheduled for release on PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Mac.

According to the website, Project 2 tells the story of a boy’s struggle against evil forces trying to take over the world through questionable experiments on human bodies." The bleak setting will be familiar to those who’ve played Limbo, but unlike the studio’s first game, Project 2 will be rendered in full colour.

Playdead’s maiden effort Limbo was first released on Xbox 360 as part of its Summer of Arcade promotion, and has since been released for PS3, PC and Mac.
