PlayStation business back in profit as PS4 production costs fall

Sony has credited the strong” performance of PS4 for a good performance in its quarter ending June 30th.

Sony’s overall numbers saw sales and operating revenue climb 5.8 per cent to 1,809.9bn, with operating income nearly doubling at 69.8bn.

The Game and Network Services division, home of its PlayStation business, saw sales and operating revenue soar 95.7 per cent to 257.5bn while last year’s operating loss of 16.4bn reversed into an operating profit of 4.3bn.

Although it declined to expand upon PS4 sales number of 7m revealed way back in April, Sony did add that it has already reduced the cost of manufacturing PS4s – another factor that helped the numbers.
