PlayStation VR pre-orders in the "hundreds of thousands" as stock runs dry

Supplies of the PlayStation VR are running incredibly short after what Sony has described as sales totalling the hundreds of thousands”.

The headsets are almost impossible to track down in the UK this week, with nearly all major retailers left out of stock. It’s not yet clear when stocks will be replenished, either. Also unknown are the sales numbers, though it increasingly looks as if the device’s week one sales total will be limited only by its available supply.

Speaking to CNBC, SIEE president Jim Ryan said: "We know from the data we have from pre-orders that the interest we have is significant.

"We know that the replenishment cycle is a good one, production is going exactly as we anticipated. We have made decisions to further increase capacity at the back end of 2016 and into 2017, so there are going to be a lot of PlayStation VRs around the world, whether that’s enough to satisfy the demands of the market, we’ll see."
