Pokemon Sun and Moon pre-orders set five-year high for GameStop

GameStop has said that Pokemon Sun and Moon has been its best performing game of 2016.

The RPG, which came out last week in the US and is out in the UK today, also attracted the highest pre-order numbers the retailer has seen for five years, GameSpot reports. This bodes very well for the game in the West, especially after the Japanese numbers were slightly lower than some forecast.

That’s not the end of the good news for Nintendo, either. The retailer says that the pre-launch purchase intent” numbers (as in, how many people say they might buy the console) for Nintendo Switch among PowerUp Rewards (loyalty card) members is in line with what was seen with the Xbox One.

The company also confirmed that Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare has underperformed, that the PS4 Pro has started well and that PlayStation VR units tend to only stay on the shelf for around 10 days.

The info dump comes as GameStop reported a year-on-year sales decrease of 2.8 per cent of the quarter ending October. New games sales fell 8.6 per cent, with the end of October period in particular underperforming. Profits for the period fell ten per cent.
