Professor Layton 7 and Fantasy Life 2 ditch 3DS, head to smartphone

Level-5 has announced that two of its big upcoming titles will be heading to smartphones instead of portable consoles.

Siliconera reports that Layton 7, the latest title in the Professor Layton series, and Fantasy Life 2 are both confirmed for a mobile release in Japan this summer on iPhone and Android.

Layton 7 had originally been announced for both mobiles and 3DS, but the game’s official website now carries no mention of Nintendo’s handheld, nor was it referenced at Level-5’s reveal event.

While the Professor Layton series has graced mobile before (in the guise of Layton Brothers: Mystery Room) its previous entries have all appeared exclusively on the DS and 3DS. The first Fantasy Life game had too been a 3DS exclusive.

So far neither game has been confirmed for a release in the West.
