PS3 Trophies to be mandatory

Sony is reportedly to make the inclusion of Trophies, the firm’s answer to Xbox 360’s popular Achievement system, mandatory from January next year,

reports.

The site claims to have word from an SCEE spokesperson that any titles released from the turn of the year must include the system – at the moment developers have the choice whether to implement them or not.

The number of high-profile releases already supporting Trophies has improved in recent times, with big hitters such as Dead Space, BioShock, Call of Duty: World at War and LittleBigPlanet all including them out of the box.

Some big titles, such as EA’s Burnout Paradise, have also had retrospective Trophy patches released. However, these often require gamers to restart titles from the beginning if they wish to secure their virtual silverware.
