PSN+ offering cheap Protection Plans

Sony has announced that American subscribers to its PlayStation Plus online service will now be eligible to purchase the PlayStation Protection Plan at a discounted rate.

The two-year PS3 cover scheme will be priced at $44.99, a 25 per cent saving. The PlayStation Protection Plan was launched in North America in May. It offers users the chance to cover their console against defects or damage.

The cover can be purchased directly through PSN.

The perk is very different to the existing offers enjoyed by PSN+ customers, which include free games, full game demos and a range of exclusive content. Sony’s premium arm to its free online network went live in June.

MCV has contacted SCEE to see if the offer will be replicated in the UK.

UPDATE: SCEE has told MCV that it has "no plans to offer this at the moment" in the UK.
