Bad Company 2 sells 2.3m

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has already sold 2.3m units having been on the market for just two weeks.

EA also claims that the game has become the best-selling March release on record in both North America and Europe.

The game shot straight to the top of the ELSPA GfK ChartTrack All Formats Top 40 upon its release earlier this month, becoming the fastest selling game of the year in the process.

We are so thrilled with the success of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 sales and fan response,” the Battlefield franchise’s executive producer Karl Magnus stated. In the first 48 hours we had such a tremendous rush to multiplayer gameplay that our servers experienced overwhelming demand.

This is a testament to the massive response players have had worldwide for the extraordinary action experienced in the Battlefield sandbox. DICE and EA have brought more servers online. We now have enough capacity to handle all BFBC2 connections seamlessly and we continue to monitor online play daily.”

EA has been keen to stress its desire to better the sales performance of fierce rival Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

For sake of comparison, on a UK basis Activision’s game enjoyed day one sales of 1.23m units and (in the UK and America) day one revenues of $310m. In its first week in the UK alone it sold 1.78m units.

EA also released a handful of stats about Bad Company 2. 81bn points have already been won in the game’s multiplayer mode and 43m weapons and gadgets unlocked by gamers. In the last 24 hours a total of 2.9m hours have been played online, with the peak concurrent users record standing at 230k.
