Canessa to head up Blizzards Battle.net

Former PopCap vice president Greg Canessa is to take charge of Blizzard’s Battle.net operations following his recently revealed move to the acclaimed MMO publisher.

We can confirm that Greg Canessa has taken a position at Blizzard Entertainment as project director for Battle.net,” a statement given to WoWInsider explained.

He will report to our vice president of online technologies and work closely with the executive team to help fine-tune the next version of Battle.net, currently in development.”

It should be noted that alongside Canessa’s notable online experience, the exec is also a console specialist, having formerly headed up PopCap’s console publishing strategy as well as being a key part of Microsoft’s Xbox Live launch. Whether this is any indication of Blizzard’s plans for Battle.net is yet to be seen.
